Burli Newsroom version 252e is available. This update improves day-to-day usability, reliability, and diagnostics, with notable enhancements for audio device selection, Axia GPIO handling, audio playback behavior, internal wire capture, Unicode migration, and reporting. It’s a recommended upgrade for all customers.
What’s New in 252e?
Highlights include:
- Easier audio device changes for users: Regular users can now change audio devices directly from the main Burli window without needing the Config/Program Setup password.
- Axia reliability improvements: A series of fixes improve how Burli handles Axia GPIO activity, including better echo handling, improved GPO state tracking, a new configurable Axia timing setting, and a fix for a rare race condition that could cause Burli to freeze.
- Audio playback improvements: Several fixes improve playback marker accuracy and prevent invalid marker positioning, including corrections to how Burli reads view start and stop times.
- Improved diagnostics and report uploads: Diagnostic report uploads now use AWS S3 by default instead of the legacy Burli FTP server, with later improvements moving report collection and sending to a background thread for better responsiveness. This release also expands the default diagnostic report to include the
Burli\local\NewswireandBurli\local\Cachefolders, with fixes to ensure those folders can be sent correctly. - Better internal wire and Platform API capture: Fixes an issue where attached audio could be missed from the Internal Newswire in certain environments. Platform API newswire type handling has also been updated, with improved compatibility checks and clearer upgrade messaging when an older
newswires.zippackage is installed. - Unicode and migration fixes: This release includes multiple fixes for Unicode environments, including corrected display of French and other special characters after ANSI-to-Unicode migration, contact database fixes, and additional logging to help diagnose VN connection issues between ANSI and Unicode systems.
- Web interface and folder handling improvements: The web interface once again shows aliased folders in their original expected sort order.
Technical Improvements:
- Added export/reporting of Burli users from
security.dta, sorted by last accessed date - Added tracking of each user’s last login date/time and associated HASP/UUID
- Fixed initialization issues for the new user login tracking table
- Fixed a database connection bug that could trigger a SQL error on launch
- Fixed attached audio capture failures from Internal Newswire in certain environments
- Added a configurable
main.inisetting for Axia GPIO ignore timing - Fixed a regression where some Axia echo commands were being fully ignored
- Updated Platform API newswire ingest behavior; requires
Newswires.zip2.82 or higher - Fixed a rare thread race condition that could freeze Burli
- Added several protections against invalid audio playback marker display
About ‘Official’ Burli Releases
An official release is one that we recommend for production use in most newsrooms worldwide. We’re confident it will run with typical Burli stability in various newsrooms. More recent versions of Newsroom may already exist (we’re releasing or updating something almost weekly) and may already be used in some newsrooms. But most newsrooms are well served by using the latest official release.
We make an official release once updates have been running in various newsrooms. That usually happens a couple of times a year.
If you’d like to be one of the newsrooms that run newer releases and have all the latest toys, just let us know.
