Twitter has announced a major change to its service that may affect Burli users.
According to a handful of tweets from the company, it is making significant changes to its pubic API. The changes were originally announced for February 9 2023, but are now set to be “roll[ed]-out over the next few weeks”.

If the changes are what was originally accounced, Burli’s Twitter integrations – including receiving and sending Tweets in Burli – will stop working for all Burli customers worldwide without notice.
Burli (and every other Twitter partner) depends on the public Twitter API for integration. It is the only way to connect to the platform and at present there is no practical alternative. In early February 2023 the company announced it would turn off the API completely. More recently, it has hinted at a monthly charge for some unspecified kinds of access to the API. Sadly, it has given no further details to date, and so we don’t know the immediate or long-term effects (if any) on Burli, nor how we might adjust to them.
We know the Twitter features in Burli are widely-used and that significant changes would impact many newsrooms and many thousands of journalists. We regret any looming inconvenience and are working to better understand Twitter’s plans.
We will continue to watch developments carefully as Twitter weathers its parade of sudden and dramatic changes under its new ownership. We will post updates here as we have them.
