Burli is designed to work within a network environment, enabling collaboration between newsroom team members. The following information will help you determine the kind of network architecture your newsroom is likely to need for Burli. Please keep in mind that these examples are just that - generic examples. Your newsroom will almost certainly be different from anything shown here. Please contact a member of Burli's technical sales team before making final hardware decisions.

Stand-Alone Machine
A complete Burli system can run on a single PC. That's often a reporter's laptop, but it can also be a newsroom of one computer that simultaneously handles data capture; text and audio editing; and broadcast or automation system integration. This configuration is ideal for small stations, news bureaus or freelancers working from a home office. A stand-alone or laptop installation includes full Virtual Newsroom tools and can connect to other newsrooms or bueaus for manual or automated sharing of news data.

Small Newsroom
Small newsrooms will benefit from Burli's distributed data management capabilities. Data ingest functions (newswire, audio feeds, fax, e-mail, etc) can be distributed over the network so that each editing workstation is also responsible for some of the data capture and management duties. Capture happens transparently in the background and complete foreground text and audio editing can happen at the same time on the same standard workstation.
Due to limitations of Windows networking, newsrooms of more than about 10 workstations will require a dedicated data server but capture can still be distriibuted across the network.

Large Newsrooms
Many Burli newsrooms have more than 30 workstations and a great variety of data pouring into the system 24/7. These larger, busier newsrooms use a dedicated file server and industry-standard redundancy tools to ensure one or more back-up servers are always available. Data ingest and news audio logging happen on dedicated capture machines, as does news archiving. Where large volumes of data are shared between newsrooms or remote sites, a dedicated Virtual Newsroom server may also be recommended.
