Burli offers full support for both MP2 and MP3 audio data formats that are widely used in broadcast applications.
Uncompressed (PCM linear) audio offers wonderful sound quality but it chews up a lot of data. And while networks are getting faster and hard drives are getting larger, you may still find compressed audio helps manage the flood of audio data. Or perhaps your existing digital audio systems all use compressed audio and you need to match that format. Either way, Burli is ready for it.

MP2
For a decade now, MP2 has been the standard for professional broadcast audio. Its popularity stems from its smaller data files (about 1/7 the size of PCM) that retain very high audio fidelity. Almost all professional music storage and automation systems use MP2. Newsrooms with high volumes of audio data find MP2 eases network bandwidth and storage.
Native MP2 in Burli
Burli treats MP2 as a native recording format. Meaning users can record, edit and broadcast their material entirely in MP2. Burli fully supports the EBU Broadcast Wave Format (BWF) standard for MPEG audio files.
Software Solution
Burli licenses the critically-acclaimed QDesign MP2 software codec, meaning users have the full advantages of high-quality MP2 without the need for expensive MP2 sound cards.
Import/Export/Conversion
Use Burli to import and export files and convert audio between formats including Linear (PCM), MP2, MP3, RealAudio and Windows Media. Burli also offers sample and bit-rate conversion for MP2 and MP3 audio. All common sample and bit-rates are supported, as are both mono and stereo files.

| Full MP3 support: file high-quality reports from laptops on deadline. |
Burli also offers full support for MP3, which has rapidly become a standard audio file format. Whether you want to download an MP3 clip from a news service, import an MP3 music file or use MP3 to file news reports over the Internet, Burli offers the powerful, easy-to-use tools your operation requires.
Small files
MP3 files are less than 10 percent the size of comparable linear audio, yet can still retain broadcast audio quality - especiallly for spoken word recordings. This makes them ideal for many news applications, particularly for filing high-quality audio over the Internet.
Fast transfers
Burli makes innovative use of MP3 compression to get reports into the newsroom at speeds that let you hit tight deadlines. Use Burli over a dedicated Internet connection (xDSL or Cable) and reports arrive in faster-than-real-time. In other words, a 40-second news report is transferred in less than 40 seconds. You can't do that with phone, satellite or ISDN. Even over dial-up, wireless or cellular Internet connections, MP3 gets full-quality audio to the newsroom in record time.
Importing and Exporting
Burli can open MP3 files right into in its integrated audio editor. MP3s arriving by e-mail, FTP or other network connections are immediately ready for air or editing. Burli can also save any audio file as MP3.
Web Audio
Major news services now offer their audio reports and clips on the web in MP3. Using these services with Burli could not be simpler: drag the link from the web page and drop it into Burli's audio editor. The waveform appears almost instantly. No streaming, re-recording or other applications are required.
Automatic MP3 audio capture
Burli automatically handles MP3 audio sent into the newsroom by e-mail, FTP, Burli's Web Server or from any bureau or affiliate using Burli's Virtual Newsroom technology. Filing or sharing audio is quick and simple with Burli and MP3.
Ideal for correspondents and reporters on the road
Imagine a two-minute radio package recorded and mixed using Burli on a laptop in a distant hotel room. Imagine dragging-and-dropping it across the laptop screen and having it appear - with script attached - in the newsroom in full audio quality, ready-to-air, less than two-minutes later. You're beginning to understand the power of Burli and MP3.
