Burli captures the full array of data sources that pour into modern broadcast newsrooms.

Data Newswires
Burli captures wire data from dozens of local and international sources.
Burli captures the standard serial data feeds that are still the backbone of many newsrooms. We offer support for newswires, agencies and data services all over the world in a wide variety of languages and character sets. Once in the system Burli provides the full range of tools you'd expect: search the wires, sort by keyword, category, priority and more. And, of course, Burli automatically purges old wire data based on configurable settings.

XML/NewsML
Internet-delivered news data is clearly the way of the future for many newsrooms and Burli already fully supports a wide variety of wires that send their data as XML files over the Internet. If your wire services are talking about moving to Internet delivery of their news, chances are Burli already supports it.

RSS
It's called Really Simple Syndication (RSS), it's changing the Internet and Burli's already putting it on the desktops of journalists. Burli will watch any RSS-enabled website for updates; the moment something new is added to the site, Burli lets you know and includes a link to the new material. Applied to a news site like the BBC or Reuters, it becomes another newswire. Burli's Virtual Newsroom feature also exports RSS data.

Audio Feeds
Burli also ingests audio sources from any analog or digital source. Ideal for capturing news agency news feeds. Record based on external signals, clock time, audio threshold or use the MP2 and MP3 support and record your sources 24/7/365.

Audio files
Sometimes news audio arrives as an audio file. Burli automatically imports audio from network locations (LAN, WAN or Internet), FTP sites and e-mail attachments. Or rip audio from a CD or import it manually from virtually anywhere. And we support a wide variety of sample rates, bit rates and audio codecs including linear.wav, BWF, MP2, MP3, Windows Media and more.

Web sites
More and more news agencies are providing web access to their text and audio cuts. Burli makes gathering them incredibly simple. Find the material on the web page and drop it into your work. That's it - Burli does the rest. If it's audio, Burli downloads and converts the audio automatically for you. No more messing around with audio players or format conversion tools.

Drag-and-drop audio and text directly into your work from web news sources like AP PrimeCuts, CCNRadioNet or IRN NewsWeb

Fax
Save some trees. Save your money. Share your faxes. Burli connects to your existing newsroom fax line and ingests digital versions of all your faxes. Sort them by sender, filter the junk, save the important ones, print them if you like. Everyone in the newsroom can see all the faxes so there's no chance of one reporter walking off with the fax others might find useful. And best of all you'll save a fortune on fax paper.

E-mail
E-mail is rapidly becoming the main source for press releases and advisories for newsrooms. Burli captures any number of newsroom e-mail accounts (news@yourstation.com) and manages the e-mails just like other data sources. Users can open attachments to read those press releases that come as PDF files. And it is fully compatible with virus scanning and anti-spam software to filter out the nasties.

Automatic Telephone Recording
Let Burli answer the phone and record those items from reporters in the field. For the reporter it's like leaving a message on a voicemail system. For the newsroom it's like having a dedicated audio recording engineer to answer the phone and record items from the field. For full details see here.
