London News Radio re-launches with Burli
January 06, 2003
LBC Radio and LBC News overhaul news production with Burli’s Newsroom System
LONDON, UK -- The two radio stations of London News Radio re-launched today with new frequencies, new studios and Burli’s Newsroom System as their main news production tool.
Dozens of journalists now simultaneously gather, edit and manage their news 24-hours a day using Burli. The newsroom system integrates tightly with RCS Player for news playout.
Station LBC uses Burli to produce news bulletins through the day, while continuous news station LBC News is using the system to produce rolling news 24-hours a day.
"Burli is a particularly impressive and flexible system," says Bruce Davidson, Chrysalis Group Technical Director. "We have been using Burli throughout the group for over three years. Using the same solution for our two new London stations was the natural choice."
Chrysalis Radio acquired the two radio stations of London News Radio in September 2002. The company made a substantial investment in new studios and equipment in time for the re-launch of the stations.
"Burli Software is delighted to be chosen by another demanding newsroom," says Stefan Ellis, President of Burli Software Inc. "We see this as a chance to build on our success in continuous news operations. We're privileged to be helping Chrysalis and its journalists produce excellent news in one of the world's political, cultural and media capitals."
Burli has been powering continuous news operations for more than three years in Canadian 24-hour newsrooms in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
The installation of Burli at Chrysalis was led by RCS UK, Burli's reseller in the UK and Ireland. RCS UK's technical staff worked closely with Chrysalis to identify a complete solution that would handle all the needs of the stations when they re-launched.
"Burli is a very exciting news solution, easy, flexible and powerful and yet very reliable," says RCS UK's Managing Director, Sebastian Holmes. "RCS in London have collaborated with Burli in Canada to develop a first-rate news product for the UK and Ireland. We are delighted that Chrysalis has recognised its full potential," Holmes says.

LBC was the first commercial radio station in the UK and has been broadcasting to London since 1973.
As part of the re-launch, the two stations have exchanged frequencies and moved their production offices to Chrysalis' West London headquarters. Nine new studios and control rooms as well as technical facilities for the additional journalists and production staff have been installed. LBC re-launched at 05:00 Monday January 6, 2003.
